Adam at the Sculpture Gardens

Adam came to visit us during August 2011 after which he reports for more military training in Frederick, MD.  We took several two days off work to be with him and tour some of the museum's.  We also took time to go on a Segway tour of the Washington Mall and surrounding areas.  We recommend the segway's as a fun way to see DC. They are great fun and relatively inexpensive way to see downtown DC. Adam has more training and then he will be deployed for 1 year in Qatar as a medical logistics specialist.

Lunceford's

Lunceford's

We met a family at the White Oak Ward by the name of Lunceford.  Adam and Aurelia a parents to eight children and were staying a hotel in downtown Silver Spring.  We adopted them as our children and they think of as as their parents.  They are a delightful couple and we spent a good deal of time with them including helping them with advice on a home and other matters.  Adam is a Patent Attorney and holds a PHD and JD degree and works for a firm in Chinatown.  They have since moved to another ward but we still maintain contact with them.

Joyce Hall

Joyce Hall

One of the delightful people we met when we first were assigned to the White Oak Ward in Silver Spring Stake is Joyce Hall.  She is a lady with Multiple Sclerosis and is residing in a Nursing home.  We were able to take her for an excursion to the Brookside Botanical Gardens close to where we live.  This is the first time she has been out of the nursing home for two years other than doctor's appointments.  She is a member and her husband, Ghee, is a member of our ward.

To Work

We actually got to start working on the documents after 'shadowing' the Walter's, the couple we work with, and then receiving more training on handling the documents. It seemed like it took a long time before we were finally able to actually do some of the work ourselves. The Archives has very specific rules that need to be followed so it took a while before we were able to work.

Senior Couple Sailing Activity

President and Sister Matsumori

We had a mission couples Sailing trip in the Chesapeake Bay in which two members of the church and his neighbor provided sailing vessels in which all of the senior mission couples could have some sailing experience.  After the sailing we all joined at the home of one of the members for a Crab lunch.  We all got to eat as much crab as we chose to 'crack' shells on.  We met most of the other senior couples and enjoyed the day.

Andy and Patricia's Visit

Brenda's Sister and her Husband came to visit us during the first month of our mission.  They were able to visit for a week and stayed in our apartment with us.  We spent three days with them touring and then they toured by themselves after we had to go back to 'work'.  We visited several of the Museums and a Anacostia River Park as well as several other sites in the DC area.  We are glad they came to visit.

Washington National's Game

We attended a Washington National's baseball game with the Mission very early into our mission.  We met many of the missionaries and had very enjoyable time while there.  The mission has many activities with both the couples and young elders and sisters to help promote a feeling unity and love in the mission.
